Checkride Fees
A checkride is an FAA practical exam that includes both a ground and flight portion. Checkrides are conducted by a Designated Pilot Examiner (DPE), and prices vary depending on the examiner. However, each checkride typically costs between $800 and $1,500. Upon successful completion of your checkride, you will receive your pilot rating. You can think of it as a combination of a test and an interview to earn your rating.
Additional Costs
FAA Written Exam: $175
This must be completed prior to your checkride. You and your instructor will work together to prepare for the written exam.
Medical Examination: $150
An FAA medical is categorized into 1st, 2nd, and 3rd class. The cost will vary depending on the tier you choose. You will be required to have your medical certificate by the time of your first solo.
